An Eater’s Manifesto

  1. I am an adult, not a ward of the state.

  2. I have a right to eat the foods of my choice.

  3. I have a right to raise and prepare those foods and to share them with my family and friends.

  4. I have a right to pay someone else to raise and prepare my foods for personal consumption and to share with family and friends.

  5. I have a right to own animals for the purpose of food production.

  6. I have a right to hire someone else to house, board, care for, milk, slaughter, and prepare those animals for consumption by myself, my family and friends.

  7. I have the right to set the terms of care, production and preparation or to leave those up to the person I entrust with these tasks.

  8. I have the right to associate with others to produce food for our own consumption and to share with our families and friends.  I may join with others in clubs, partnerships, community organizations, non-profits, mutual benefit associations, and other organizations, formal and informal, in the exercise of this right.

  9. These are private rights.  There is no public interest in interfering in their exercise, because they have to do with my personal consumption and decisions about the production of my food and the food I share with my family and friends.

  10. These rights allow me to purchase an animal or a share in an animal (a “herdshare”) for personal consumption.  They allow me to purchase a milking animal or a share in a milking animal (a “dairyshare”) for personal consumption.  I may set the terms of care, milk production, slaughter, and preparation without the oversight of the government.

  11. I am an adult, not a ward of the state.
